IPCC reports on climate change
The IPCC prepares comprehensive assessment reports on knowledge relating to climate change, its causes, potential impacts, and response options. The IPCC also produces special reports, which provide an assessment of a specific issue, and methodological reports, which provide practical guidelines for preparing greenhouse gas inventories.
ADEME's analysis of carbon capture and utilization (CCU)
The French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) has published its opinion on CCU based on a review of the current literature.
As CO2 recovery encompasses a wide variety of products and processes, the realities of decarbonization vary greatly depending on the type of technology and substitution chosen. Among other things, ADEME recommends promoting biogenic CO2 sources, using renewable and recovered energy, storing CO2 for as long as possible, and conducting a life cycle assessment for each CCU project.
Opinion of the High Council for Climate on the strategy for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS)
A multi-criteria analysis by the High Council for Climate concludes that CO2 recovery through CCUS is marginal today, but may respond to considerations of diversifying raw material supply chains for industries involved in these markets. The potential contribution of CCUS to climate objectives is limited and conditional on the substitution of fossil inputs, carbon sequestration, and the availability of biomass and energy, and requires rigorous monitoring.
